Well, I said this blog would be a hodgepodge of stuff, so this is a little background into my passion for sports. As a fan and as a participant, sports have played a big role in my life. I've loved football pretty much all my life and to this day I'm still a huge fan and wish I could still play! (who doesn't!?) Growing up near Dallas, I'm a die-hard Cowboys fan, even if my interest in NFL football has waned over the years. My absolute favorite spectator sport is without a doubt college football, and I root my beloved Texas A&M Aggies on every Saturday.
Secondary to football is now ice hockey.
I became a fan back in the late 90's around the time the Dallas Stars began their run for the Stanley Cup which they won in 1999. I followed closely for a few years after but eventually had other priorities that meant sports across the board were on the backburner. But toward the end of the 2000's I had the opportunity to go to some games with some regularity and became hooked once again. As a sport and a league, I now enjoy NHL Hockey more than the NFL. I still love the Cowboys, but I don't follow the NFL as closely as I used to.
Yes, I'm still an insufferable Mavs fan and Rangers fan as well. I can't say that I get as excited about these teams as I used to, but I'm gonna back my home town teams through rain or shine. I am a passive NASCAR fan and enjoy the races when the opportunity presents itself. I was once a huge fan of tennis and especially following Andre Aggasi's career, but now--along with golf--I only follow the sport casually.
I played t-ball and one season of pee-wee football as a babe, then played five-pitch and some fastpitch baseball as a youth. Organized school sports included football, basketball, track, and tennis in Junior High, and I continued with football, track, and some powerlifting in high school. I then played football for Midwestern State University during college. During this time I also began playing softball, volleyball, golf, pickup basketball, and flag football. Recently, I have added running to the repertoire, including some 5K's and 10K's, as well as some "extreme" running through mud, obstacles, etc. At best I would consider myself a very good--but not great--athlete that occasionally did some great things along the course of a game. But, I had fun and won a few here and there.
